Things You Didn’t Know You Could Do At Black Creek

You probably remember Black Creek Pioneer Village from when you were a kid. You went to the museum, wandered around the village, stared at the people in costume, and haven’t thought about it since. Well, Black Creek’s been busy. Really busy, actually. Just this summer they launched Black Creek Nightlife, partnering with some of the best experience providers in the GTA. Not to mention, there’s a fully functional brewery there? Here are just a few reasons why you should make your way over to Jane and Steeles pronto.

Black Creek escape game#1 – Play Toronto’s most immersive escape game

If you’ve done an escape game before, you’ve never done one like this. Secret City Adventures teamed up with Black Creek to offer a completely immersive, totally interactive escape game that will have chills running down your spine. Set in the village at night, you at 5 close friends are on a mission to crack the puzzles and free the village from a cult’s curse—while masked cult members skulk in the shadows and track your progress. This massive game can accommodate up to 60 people—and you’ll be competing against the other teams to solve the riddles and save the town.

Available: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights until October

Black Creek axe throwing#2 – Throw axes outside with your friends

Make the most of the warmer weather while it lasts and try outdoor axe throwing with your friends. This game starts with a lesson and a few practice rounds and ends with an awesome axe throwing tournament. Grab some craft Canadian brews after on the patio or, if it’s super hot, inside enjoying the nice A/C. Best of all, at $35 per person, this is one of the most affordable axe throwing providers in the city.

Available: Saturday nights until October

Black Creek brewmaster#3 –  Learn to make your own beer

Go one better than a brewery tour—actually learn how to make your own beer. Black Creek has been home to the Black Creek Brewery for years now, and they actually were one of the first craft breweries to open in Toronto. Take your love of beer to the next level by spending the day with the brewmaster (fair warning, he will be in full period costume). This experience is designed for one person but they’ll happily take a group of two friends. Take home a 2-litre growler when you’re done!

Available: Friday and weekends in August, weekends in September and onward

Black Creek archery dodgeball#4 – Compete against your friends in archery dodgeball

Archery dodgeball is a blast—and playing it outside only feels natural. Enjoy a bracing game of archery dodgeball in the wide open spaces of the Black Creek property. Your game stars with a lesson and plenty of practice—and ends with a fight to the death on the field. You’ll need at least 8 for a game, but don’t worry if just you and a friend want to go, you can join an existing game of archery warriors.

Available: Saturday nights until October

With craft beer on site, plenty of wide open spaces, and an idyllic historic village perfect for creepy cultists to lurk and linger, it’s hard to understand why you haven’t been to Black Creek yet.
